Business school brings benefits of an MBA to working professionals

Posted on 6/26/2010
More business professionals are seeking MBA careers, which has inspired several graduate schools to create masters programs that cater to the needs of working students.

For example, the Orgalea College of Business at Cal Poly recently announced the launch of an MBA program that is intended to enable degree seekers to complete their coursework around a busy schedule, Noozhawk reports.

The school will require students to complete two-thirds of the curriculum through classroom-based courses, which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at Santa Barbara's Canary Hotel. The remaining coursework can be completed online, according to the news source.

Classes in managerial finance as well as in the legal and regulatory environment of business will be held this fall.

Brian Tietje, associate dean of the business school, told the news source that this format is aimed at "an underserved market for working professionals for whom an MBA can be a valuable opportunity."

These courses of study could prove quite valuable to businessmen and women who are looking to advance their careers, as the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that masters degree holders can earn thousands more per week than individuals who only have a bachelors degree.
