Engineering master’s program may lead to urban planning careers

Posted on 8/23/2010
In the coming years, the demand for urban planners is expected to grow faster than the average rate for all other occupations. As a result, individuals who wish to pursue careers in this field may want to consider enrolling in some engineering courses that can give them the foundation they will need to succeed.

Fortunately, many engineering graduate schools are beginning to launch programs that can lead degree seekers directly into the urban planning industry.

The University of Central Florida is one of these institutions, as school officials recently opened the application process for a new master's program in urban and regional planning. Administrators say that this course of study is intended to answer the growing need for professionals who can prepare cities for emergent issues, such as high-speed and commuter rail lines.

Enrollees will have the option to focus their studies on healthy community planning, environmental planning or transportation planning. Similar courses of study will address a wide range of topics including public administration, sociology, political science, engineering, health, transportation policy and economic development.ADNFCR-2969-ID-19929842-ADNFCR
