Graduate degrees may boost productivity, job satisfaction

Posted on 2/8/2010
Experts say the recession has led employers to reevaluate their hiring practices, causing some of them to put emphasis on further education of their existing workers, as opposed to hiring new ones.

In fact, one company's experience has proven that tuition assistance can have a significant impact on employee performance and overall satisfaction. Staffers at Verizon Wireless who participated in LearningLINK, its educational financial aid program, were more likely to receive promotions than the company's general workforce, according to Chief Learning Officer Media.

After the program was launched, a survey of managers revealed that 35 percent of LearningLINK beneficiaries received promotions, while 26 percent of non-participating employees did so.

Moreover, a total of 37 percent of managers stated they saw improvements in job performance as a result of company-funded tuition assistance, and 40 percent affirmed that LearningLINK led employees to strive for personal career development, acquire leadership roles and adapt to changes in the workplace.

The company looks at tuition reimbursement as a strategic tool that "has paid off in better performance, more productive employees and a workforce that is eager to take on more," said Dorothy Martin, national program manager for LearningLINK, quoted by the news provider.

Similar programs may open opportunities for individuals at other companies who are interested in pursuing online law degrees, some of which may be completed via distance education graduate degrees. Men and women who seize this chance may see their tuition costs reimbursed by employers eager to invest in self-improvement and take advantage of higher productivity. ADNFCR-2969-ID-19603277-ADNFCR
