Posted on 4/15/2010
Individuals who are planning to enroll in graduate programs in health may want to consider studying information technology, as many members of the medial field are expected to hire more professionals with technical skills.

Oregon Health and Science University reports that approximately 50,000 professionals will be needed to work with electronic health records within the next four years. As a result, jobseekers who choose to enroll in health information technology programs could see increased job prospects.

Educational offerings in this sector range from certificate programs to masters-level study, which could enable students to determine how much time and energy they are willing to commit to launch a new career.

Graduates of these courses of study may be able to land jobs as clinicians, public health leaders, health information management and exchange specialists, health information management and security specialists, research and development scientists, programmers, software engineers, or health information technology sub-specialists.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for professionals who are able to manage the technical aspects of medical recordkeeping is expected to grow by 20 percent over the next eight years.
