For many prospective legal professionals, becoming a lawyer is not the ideal career path. Fortunately, there are many different types of law degrees that can help these individuals enter the field that best suits their interests.
Homeland security is a fast-growing sector of the legal field, as federal, state and local governments are developing a growing need for individuals who can effectively respond to emergent situations. These challenges may include domestic and foreign threats or natural disasters.
In 2008, the federal government employed approximately 171,000 homeland security professionals, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
As this field continues to expand, some campus-based and online colleges are creating masters programs that can prepare degree seekers to preserve the nations security.
For instance, Kaplan University recently announced the launch of an online masters program in homeland security and emergency management. This course of study is open to bachelors degree holders who wish to start a career in national safety.
These jobs may include managerial positions in hazard mitigation, emergency management, homeland defense, border and transportation security or emergency preparedness and response.
