As more companies harness technology to keep track of their records, many of these businesses are increasing their efforts to hire online security experts. Consequently, many colleges are creating campus-based and distance learning graduate degree programs that train professionals to protect web-based documents.
For instance, Our Lady of the Lake University recently announced the launch of two new online programs that are intended to help students gain expertise in cybersecurity, the San Antonio Business Journal reports.
Information technology (IT) professionals who wish to earn a masters degree without quitting their current jobs may do so through the school's new online graduate program in computer information systems and security. This course of study is modeled after the school's classroom-based cyber security degree program and is designed to be completed by individuals with a technical background within one year.
The university has also created a transitional program for individuals who wish to enter this career field but do not have a strong IT background. The school's Cyber Security Boot Camp is intended to help budding masters degree candidates complete their technical prerequisites in one semester, according to the news source.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for computer and information systems managers is expected to increase by 17 percent over the next eight years.
