Online master’s degree candidates may be eligible for scholarships

Posted on 8/25/2010
Many individuals choose to pursue a distance learning graduate degree in order to save money on commuting costs, book fees and living expenses. Cost-conscious students may be able to hold onto even more of their hard-earned cash if they explore the various financial aid opportunities that are available through several online schools.

The University of Scranton is one of these institutions, as school officials recently announced the launch of a scholarship program for students in its master's in education degree programs. Recipients will receive financial aid packages that cover 25 percent of tuition costs.

Winners who are pursuing graduate degrees in curriculum and instruction will receive a minimum of $3,960 each, while educational administration students will get at least $4,290 in financial assistance. These numbers will be adjusted in the event of a tuition increase.

W. Jeffrey Walsh, dean of the university's College of Graduate and Continuing Education, said that these scholarships are intended to help "committed teachers in furthering their education," and enable them to "attain valuable new skills that will transform tomorrow's classrooms and improve the lives of countless students."ADNFCR-2969-ID-19931160-ADNFCR
