Online masters degree programs offer community service opportunities

Posted on 7/25/2010
Students who are considering enrolling in a distance learning graduate degree program may worry that they will miss out on some of the activities that are typically available on college campuses, such as volunteer projects.

However, many online graduate degree providers are working to ensure that their enrollees will have many of the same opportunities that students at campus-based schools can access.

For instance, Ashworth College recently created its own Habitat for Humanity chapter, which may be joined by degree seekers and faculty members from across the globe.

As part of the school’s 2010 Graduation activities, a group of volunteers representing the school will help construct a house in collaboration with the organization’s north central Georgia branch. In preparation for the event, school officials sought donations from employees and students worldwide. The volunteers will present their contribution to Habitat for Humanity representatives at the construction site.

Masters degree holders who can boast volunteer or community service experience may prove to be especially valuable to current and prospective employers, as many companies are seeking ways to enhance their corporate responsibility initiatives.ADNFCR-2969-ID-19906182-ADNFCR
