University offers scholarship for master’s degree program

Posted on 9/26/2010
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, librarians earned an average of $52,530 during the 2008 fiscal year. These professionals can work for the government, universities or private institutions.

Schools such as the University of North Texas (UNT) are offering full-tuition scholarships to those who wish to pursue master's degrees in this field. Pacific Resources for Education and Learning is collaborating on the initiative in order to offer this financial aid package to students from the U.S.-affiliated Pacific islands.

The Library Education for the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific project is funded by a $999,700 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through its Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program. A total of 23 students from this region are currently enrolled in UNT's online master's program in library and information sciences will be offered scholarships.

UNT faculty members will provide an introduction to the master's program and meet with individual students to offer advice and guidance. Each student will be assigned to a UNT librarian for academic support and professional mentoring throughout the program.
