Bowie State University

Bowie State University is an outgrowth of the first school opened in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 9, 1865, by the Baltimore Association for the Moral and Educational Improvement of Colored People, which was organized to engage in its self-appointed mission on a statewide basis. Today, the university offers a wide array of undergraduate and graduate degree programs and continues to make strides with the matriculation of more than 5,500 undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, Bowie State University is designated as one of six Model Institutions of Excellence by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Building on its image as a student-centered institution and its history as an HBCU, Bowie State University provides its diverse student population with a course of study that ensures a broad scope of knowledge and understanding that is deeply rooted in expanded research activities. It is also a charter and continuously accredited member of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) programs.

The Office of Graduate Studies offers many opportunities for students’ professional growth as they strive to accomplish their career goals. The mission of the Office of Graduate Studies is to serve the community, state, and nation by providing high-quality graduate programs, which fit into your schedule and are reasonably priced. The school offers evening and weekend courses that are easily accessible with both on-campus and off-campus locations.

In addition, Bowie State University’s Graduate Student Association (GSA) invites graduate student involvement in the campus academic community. Graduate students are represented collectively by the Graduate Student Association, which provides a forum for students to address issues across the University.
