MBA Education with a Global Focus
If you plan to compete in the emerging global economy, you will need to understand international product and capital markets, multicultural organizations, and the competitive structure of global industries. And you will benefit from experience in the international arena.
The MBA at the International Business School is one of a handful of business degrees that directly targets this skill set. It is a two-year program that provides grounding in the international dimension of every business function, incorporates international experience through study or an internship abroad, and exposes students to the best practices of the world’s leading companies.
But our MBA doesn’t merely teach functional skills, it also develops a framework for understanding international competition through the study of globalization and economic interdependence. Students leave with a fresh perspective on the global economy, excellent technical skills, international experience, and contacts needed to launch an exciting career.
Students
The MBA is an intimate, collegial program with a distinguished faculty and exceptional students from across the world. MBA students also share many learning and social opportunities with the school’s MA and MSF student populations. MBA students are typically 24–28 years old and have GPAs of around 3.3. We look for GMAT scores in the 600s. Most students have two or more years of work experience, and many have spent time outside the United States or have multinational backgrounds.
Curriculum
The MBA program integrates global theory and practice into every course, developing skills in all major business functions, and offers opportunities for acquiring international experience and advanced expertise in finance and other fields.
Career Advancement
IBS alumni generally rise rapidly in their companies. While data on MBA graduates are limited (the program started in 1998), our MA graduates who entered business careers over the past decade now occupy positions such as managing director of municipal finance in a major investment bank, partner for emerging markets in an investment bank, and partner in a management consulting firm.
Who Should Apply
We seek candidates who will make significant analytical and leadership contributions in business or finance. You should have:
- A successful academic record in an American bachelor’s or equivalent foreign degree program
- Good analytical skills as demonstrated with GMAT scores
- Experience that demonstrates leadership potential for business
- Interest in international issues and motivation for challenging graduate study
Financing Your Degree
IBS is aggressively committed to attracting highly qualified students. Relative to other business and professional schools, we offer generous financial aid. The school awards both merit-based and need-based aid. Our major merit-based scholarship programs make awards to nearly one-third of incoming students. Every applicant—whether from the United States or from other countries—is automatically considered for merit-based scholarships, and every student who completes the Statement of Financial Resources in our application is also considered for need-based awards.
