About Us
Throughout its history, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has built a reputation as a premier pharmacy institution. In this new era of health care, with scientific advances playing an ever-increasing role in medicine, we have built on this reputation by broadening our academic focus to include new programs in pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical technology, cytotechnology, clinical laboratory sciences, and health and human sciences. We are expanding our Albany campus and enhancing student services to support our vision for the future. We also are offering the Doctor of Pharmacy and MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences programs at our new campus in Colchester, Vermont.
ACPHS has always provided the essentials for a first-rate education: outstanding programs, innovative learning facilities with cutting-edge technology, distinguished faculty, and a caring staff of professionals. We will perpetuate this outstanding legacy as we move forward with new goals and achievements in mind.
Academic Options
Pharmacy Programs: Pharmacists today have the ability to manage, cure and prevent disease. With the continuous development of new medications and the aging population, the need for trained pharmacists will be sustained for years to come.
Pharmaceutical Sciences: ACPHS’s MSPS program educates students in the scientific disciplines required for the discovery, development, and evaluation of new and existing drugs. Depending on their interest, students may choose either pharmacology or pharmaceutics as a sub-discipline. An extensive research component exists for students pursuing a thesis track.
Pharmacy Administration: The emergence of managed care as a primary payer of health care has resulted in a number of career opportunities for individuals with graduate degrees in the administrative sciences. The program prepares graduates to serve as managers in retail, academia, or institutional pharmacy as well as government, insurance, and the pharmacy industry.
Health Outcomes: The MS in Health Outcomes Research is a degree designed to provide the knowledge and unique skills necessary for evaluating economic, clinical, and humanistic outcomes of medical interventions, with an emphasis on the evaluation of pharmaceutical products and services. The program emphasizes quantitative and analytical methods, assessment, and research in health outcomes. The degree provides fundamental courses in quantitative analysis and econometrics, as well as applied courses in health statistics, health policy, and pharmacoeconomic methods, building upon components within the existing Pharm.D. curriculum.
Student LifeWe know that it takes more than a quality education to make a well-rounded student. So we offer our students a number of services and activities outside of the classroom that provide them with life learning they can’t get from a textbook. We also are excited to have opened our new Student Center at the heart of our expanding campus, a vibrant community where nearly 800 of our approximately 1,400 students live in on-campus housing.
