Biology and Raptor Biology Programs at Boise State

The Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University offers Master of Science and Master of Arts degrees in biology, as well as a unique and internationally recognized Master of Science degree in raptor biology. Assistantships for the Master of Science programs are available on a competitive basis for qualified students. Demand for assistantships is high, so be sure to meet the department’s application deadlines (January 15 for fall admission, and October 1 for spring admission).

Boise State University is a metropolitan research university situated along the scenic Boise River, just a stone’s throw away from Julia Davis Park and Boise’s vibrant downtown corridor. As Idaho’s capital city, Boise boasts a variety of art, culture, and scenic parklands, plus you are never far from skiing, rafting, fly fishing, backpacking, and a variety of sports including football on the blue turf at Bronco Stadium. MS Biology: The Master of Science in Biology program includes innovative research opportunities across a wide range of disciplines, including molecular and cellular biology, biomedical research, physiology, ecology, conservation, behavior, and evolution. MS Raptor Biology: The Master of Science in Raptor Biology is a research-based degree designed to enhance your knowledge and understanding of raptor biology and ecology. The Snake River Birds of Prey Natural Area, with the largest concentration of nesting raptors in North America, is a unique local resource for the study of raptor biology and ecology. In addition, the Idaho Bird Observatory offers you opportunities to study raptor migration. Raptor biologists working for state, federal, and local private organizations provide additional expertise and research opportunities. MA Biology (Examination and Project options): The Master of Arts in Biology program offers a wide range of graduate courses tailored to your specific interests. This degree is considered a terminal degree except for students planning to attend professional school; students wishing to later pursue a PhD should enroll in one of the MS programs.
